ERP on USSD-enabled application

KCVC (Kotido Central Vet Care) is an enterprise management system developed by us in partnership with USAID FtFIAM, to strengthen animal-health service delivery and disease surveillance across the Karamoja region of Uganda. The platform enables Community Animal Health Workers and other field-based veterinary actors to digitally report suspected animal diseases, capture field information, and communicate emerging animal-health concerns to the teams responsible for monitoring and responding to them. By creating a structured flow of information from communities to veterinary and programme management teams, KCVC supports more organised surveillance, better visibility of field conditions, and more timely coordination of animal-health interventions.

A key component of KCVC is its veterinary product request and management functionality. Community Animal Health Workers can use the platform to request animal-health products required in their areas, including antibiotics, supplements, insecticides, antiprotozoal products, and other veterinary supplies. Requests can be recorded, reviewed, and tracked, giving programme and veterinary teams better visibility of product demand, where supplies are required, and the status of individual requests. This helps move veterinary supply processes away from fragmented manual records towards a more structured digital workflow that supports accountability, coordination, and informed planning.

KCVC has been designed around the realities of community-based service delivery in Karamoja, including situations where users may have limited access to smartphones, mobile data, or reliable internet connectivity. To promote accessibility, the platform incorporates USSD functionality, allowing users to access key services through ordinary mobile phones using *284*656#. This makes the system more inclusive by providing a practical digital channel for field workers who may otherwise be excluded from smartphone- or internet-dependent systems, while the broader platform provides management teams with a central environment for administering users, monitoring reports, managing requests, and accessing operational information.

For inclusivity, our clients want to serve all their customers — and we help them achieve just that. KCVC demonstrates our approach to building technology around the people and environments it is intended to serve. By connecting community-level animal-health workers with veterinary and programme management teams, the system brings together disease surveillance, field reporting, and veterinary product requests within one coordinated digital environment. It demonstrates our experience in developing practical, sector-specific enterprise solutions that use appropriate technologies to improve access to services, strengthen information flows, and support better management of programmes operating in complex field environments.
